Blazer – The History
The term “blazer” originated with the “red blazers” of Lady Margaret Boat Club (October 1825). The rowing club of St. John’s College Cambridge (lmbc.soc.srcf.net). Lady Margaret club jackets were termed “blazers” because of the bright red cloth. Members with 1st may colours are entitled to wear trim and gold buttons on their blazers… 1st lent or 2nd may colours are entitled to wear silver buttons on their blazers.
